American Tommy Paul played a fabulous match to send Alexander Zverev packing in what was a superb display from the American 6-2 4-6 7-6(2).
Alexander Zverev is not having a good start to the year and it just got a little bit worse. The German ran into a very inspired Tommy Paul who has beaten Zverev before and the American played a superb match to defeat the German once more. From the start, it was obvious Zverev was not into it much with Paul smashing him quite easily in the first set 6-2.
He somewhat rallied in the 2nd set playing much better tennis, especially on serve which kept Paul away from any break chances. The American did the same but faltered late in the set to give Zverev a chance and the German took it 6-4.
The 3rd set was a monster battle between the two players with Zvere initially finding ways to keep himself on top. He took a 4-2 lead and it seemed like he would be able to battle back and win the match however the crowd rallied behind Paul who pulled out an additional level and got the break back. Eventually, we ended up in a tiebreak.
Paul jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back adding a few more points after that. He finished it off with 7-2 for one of the best wins of his career.
