Alex De Minaur has experienced a very tough 2020 year and he uses that experience as fuel in the new season.
The 2021 year started off in great fashion for the Australian who won his 4th career title in Turkey earlier. The motivation behind that inspirational run comes from a very rough 2020 season. He had his best showing at a Grand Slam but it could not make up for the isolation he felt during lockdowns.
"2020 was a tough year. Obviously, I had my best result at a slam but it doesn't feel like my best achievement. It was still a dark time. I wasn't feeling great. It was just mentally, I wouldn't say my best performance."
De Minaur has one more week of quarantine in Melbourne before starting off Australian swing:
"I'm sure that will feel amazing. I've got my goal in my head of where I want to be when 2021 finishes up, but it's a goal that I don't like to say out loud."
For De Minaur the goals are pretty clear and that is getting to the top and being able to compete with the best of the best. He put a lot of work during the offseason explaining:
"Working to take it to the top guys, to be able to push these top guys, so that means hitting the ball a bit bigger, being a bit more aggressive, getting a bit stronger - these things - until it becomes just natural.
He wrapped up the interview by saying:
"I don't want just to be having a good result every now and then. I want to be bringing my level every single week. Hopefully, I can bring my best at the ATP Cup and Aussie Open. "
