In the previous round, Tsitsipas defeated Andrey Rublev to set up a meeting with Novak Djokovic. But it was a bad start for the Greek in the semifinal in Abu Dhabi.
Tsitsipas did not convert the break point in the first game of the match and lost his next service. Later, Djokovic added one more break to gain an important 5-1 lead. Although Tsitsipas got one break back, it was not enough and Djokovic won the set 6-3.
In the second set the tables turned, Djokovic did not convert the break point in the first game and lost his next service game and one more later to give Tsitsipas 5-1 lead. But former world number one was able to come back as he forced a tie-break. However, Tsitsipas won the tie-break 7-4 and so the 3rd set had to decide.
There, Tsitsipas was successful in converting his very first break point and gained 1-0 lead. He had 4 more break opportunities later, but did not use any. Tsitsipas won the 3rd set 6-4 and in the final he will meet the winner of the match between Karen Khachanov and Rafael Nadal.
