Former finalist Stefanos Tsitsipa smashed Pedro Cachin 6-4 6-2 at the Barcelona Open to get his campaign underway with a good win.
Tsitsipas has played in Barcelona for the past few years making it to the final two years ago and losing to Nadal. Last year he lost to Alcaraz so both times he was beaten by the player that ended up as the champion fo the event. His first match here came against a solid clay player in Cachin and he had no issues.
It was a good way to shake off the poor performance in Monte-Carlo. The first set featured Tsitsipas finding his rhythm and eventually, he won the opening set 6-4. He didn't serve as well but he controlled the rallies really well not allowing any break chances though Cachin had some success on the second serve of Tsitsipas.
The second set was far better for the Greek player who was able to break his opponent twice in this set. He served quite a bit better and didn't lose too many points which was pretty important. On return, Tsitsipas mostly waited for a chance on the second serve of his opponent and he used them clinically.
