Russia’s tennis star
Daniil Medvedev achieved yet another
milestone but remains extremely underrated.
The 27-year-old became the first player since 2016 to reach nine
or more finals in a year on two occasions. He did that in 2019 and in 2023.
Medvedev recently reached the final of the US Open where he
lost to the current world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic with a score of 6-3,
7-6, 6-3.
Despite that defeat, the current world number three ended up
winning five ATP titles in the calendar year.
His first title came in Rotterdam in February where he defeated
Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the final with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 62-.
Medvedev then clinched the title in Doha after beating the former
world number one Andy Murray in the final with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
In Dubai, the Moscow-born lifted another ATP title, beating fellow countryman Andrey Rublev in the final with a score of 6-2,
6-2.
Later in Miami, Medvedev defeated Sinner once again in the
final to lift another title with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
In Rome, the 2021 US Open winner defeated Holger Rune of
Denmark to win the title with a score of 7-5, 7-5.
