Serena
Williams and
Venus Williams commented on a video of
Grigor Dimitrov on social
media following his runner-up finish at the 2023 Paris Masters.
The
Bulgarian tennis player had a strong end to the season with a record of 15-5
since the beginning of the Asian tour, including reaching the semifinals of the
Masters 1000 Shanghai Open and the final in Paris-Bercy.
At 32 years
old, Grigor Dimitrov (world No.14) returned to the top 15 for the first time
since 2018. He achieved this by defeating notable players in Paris, such as
Lorenzo Musetti (6-2, 6-7, 6-3), Daniil Medvedev (6-3, 6-7, 7-6), Aleksander
Bublik (6-2, 6-2), Hubert Hurkacz (6-1, 4-6, 6-4), and Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-3,
6-7, 7-6).
Unfortunately
for Dimitrov, the final did not go his way, and he couldn't do much against the
world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who claimed his seventh Paris trophy and 40th
Masters 1000 title with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
The match
featured a high level of play from both players, but in the end, 'Nole'
asserted his dominance. After the match, Dimitrov was seen crying inconsolably,
and during the award ceremony, he expressed his disappointment:
“I'm not
ashamed of [the tears]. It just happened. I'm sad. Of course, I'm sad that I
lost. It's never fun when you lose in a final. I think for me now, I have some
time to reflect and move on,” he said.
After the
loss, Dimitrov expressed his gratitude to his fans through social media,
thanking them for their support.
“Feeling
grateful 🙏🏼 I have all the messages, all the
support and the love I’ve received is touching. I just want to say thank you
for everything to everyone that has been on this journey with me. 🙏🏼 Thank you for a memorable Rolex
Paris Masters,” former ATP Finals champion wrote.
The North
American tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams reacted to Dimitrov's post
and left a humorous response:
Serena:
“Love you Grigs!!”
Venus:
“Please note I’m your biggest fan. More than Serena.”
