Chair umpire managed to avoid an accident during the ongoing ATP Challengers event in Copa Cana in Republica Dominica. The competition is moving towards the business end where the remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize.
In the quarterfinal of the event between Aleksandar Kovacevic and Daniel Altmaier, the chair umpire managed to avoid an accident as he got off the chair just moments before it fell because of strong winds. The incident took place in the first game of the first set. The video of the incident was released on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter.
Thankfully the umpire remain unhurt during the incident. In the contest, it was Kovacevic who came out on top with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. The winner in the match converted four break points, just slightly better than his opponent who managed to win three break points. He won 60 percent service points.
Kovacevic will now face France’s Alexandre Muller in the semifinal of the event on Saturday. The 28-year-old cemented his spot in the last-four after beating fellow countryman Constant Lestienne in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two players in professional tennis.
