Italy’s Jannik Sinner returned to his hometown for the first time after becoming the world number one in men’s tennis. The 22-year-old is already regarded as one of the most highly-rated players currently playing men’s tennis, along with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner finally received the reward of incredible consistency over the last 18 months and became the new world number one after replacing Serbia’s legendary tennis star, Novak Djokovic.

The 37-year-old lost his spot at the top of the men’s tennis rankings after a difficult season. He has yet to play in the final of any event. In the most recently concluded French Open, Djokovic was forced to retire before the start of the quarterfinal because of a knee injury.

In a video posted on social media platform X—previously known as Twitter—Sinner returned to his hometown for the first time after becoming the world's number one. The San Candido-born star explained how he felt after reaching the top and returning to the place where it all started for him.

The newly crowned world number one is having a fabulous 2024 season. He started brilliantly and went on to win his first Grand Slam title after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller, with a score of 3–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–3.
