The organizers of the Monte-Carlo Masters have announced they will be granting wild-card entries to Stan Wawrinka and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, as the ATP Masters 1000 event is scheduled to run from April 9-17, 2022.
Wawrinka, a three-time Grand Slam champion and 2014 Monte-Carlo titlist, has been out of action since March 2021. The Swiss star suffered a left foot injury that required surgery and has been giving updates on his recovery on social media.
Tsonga, a two-time Monte-Carlo semifinalist and 2008 Australian Open runner-up, has been struggling with injuries since the latter half of 2018. The Frenchman compiled a record of 1-8 last season after another bout with an arm injury, and returned to action this year in Montpellier, where he fell in the second round.
