Sophia Thomalla has admitted that she and her partner German
tennis star
Alexander Zverev had a turbulent year in the relationship. The
34-year-old was quoted in a report recently where she opened up about the details
of her relationship with the world number seven.
"It was a turbulent year,” she said. “But that doesn't
have to be negative, sometimes you have to go a certain extra mile for your
career. We don't lead a normal life. We get up very early and travel a lot. You
have no basis to hold on to.”
Zverev had a decent year at the highest level where he ended
up winning two ATP titles. The first of those wins came while playing in his home
country where he defeated Serbia’s Laslo Djere in the final with a score of 7-5,
6-3.
His second ATP title was a victory in Chengdu in September
where he got the better of world number 39 Russia’s Roman Safiullin with a
score of 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
Zverev also had a more than decent time while playing in the
Grand Slams in 2023. In the French Open, the Hamburg-born was knocked out of the competition after
losing the semifinal to Norways’ Casper Ruud in straight sets with a score of
6-3, 6-4, 6-0.
In the US Open, Zverev managed to qualify for the
quarterfinal where he lost to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
