Several tennis stars are of different opinions regarding the doping saga involving World No.1 Jannik Sinner, and Swiss star Stan Wawrinka went into more detail on the manner in which the situation was handled.

Sinner tested positive for clostebol, a banned substance, at Indian Wells last year. After a long deliberation, the Italian was handed a three-month ban that will run from February till May 2025. Although Sinner will miss several ATP Masters events, fans and some players voiced their displeasure at the World No.1's punishment, branding it as lenient to to Sinner's superstar status.

Wawrinka opens up on transparency in the sport

The Swiss star had been vocal about transparency in tennis following Sinner's suspension. Wawrinka gave some more insight into his beliefs while preparing for an ATP Challenger event in Naples, Italy.

"It's a difficult topic, it's not easy to explain everything in detail," said the three-time Grand Slam champion during a press conference. "Many things have happened in tennis, men's and women's, in recent years and our sport has not given a good image. I hope the situation improves.
"If you look at the last year, two number 1s tested positive. And we players only found out about it several months later. What we ask for is total transparency and I hope that things will improve for tennis, that they will move forward in a different way. At the end of the day, we only hope for great matches and we don't want to see anyone out of our sport, let alone the number 1 in the world. We want transparency, that's all that matters."
