Despite what people might say or think about Kyrigios, the Australian knows that he is a popular player who fills stadiums and that makes him somewhat of a tennis icon.
Being popular in tennis is harder than most people might think as being good at it doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to be popular. There are plenty of good players that are not very popular but Kyrgios is both good and popular. He called himself a tennis icon in a recent interview he did due to being somebody who gets people in the stands:
"And whatever people say, my stadiums are always full. A lot of people have gravitated towards my type of tennis, I've been a kind of icon in the sport and, obviously, been able to be consistent in 2022. I guess you could say it was a breakthrough year."
Kyrgios is ready for the new year as he prepared well for it:
"I'm training well, enjoying it, mentally feeling good. That's all that really matters. Whether I go in there and win the [Australian Open] or lose first round, I'm the same person. I'm taking it day by day, I'm a day-by-day person. I'm not thinking ahead at all."
