Novak Djokovic won all three Grand Slams played so far in 2021 and Nadal believes the Serbian is capable of winning the US Open as well.
If Novak Djokovic wins the US Open he will achieve something that has never been done in the Open Era and that is the Calendar Grand Slam. Djokovic has the chance to win all four Grand Slams in one calendar year but he will need to go through Nadal to do it.
The Spaniard is already in North America preparing for the North American swing and he was asked about his thoughts on Novak's chances. He said:
“He’s already won three, so when you win three, you can win four, without a doubt, He’s going to be playing on hard courts, probably his best surface, so why not? Of course, it’s something difficult. [There are] going to be other guys that want to achieve the last Slam of the season. But of course, he's one of the clear favourites.”
Nadal was a witness of Djokovic and his level this year at the
French Open where the Serbian produced a sensational level to beat Nadal. Nobody saw it coming and Nadal was left shell-shocked after the loss. The Serbian recently suffered his first major blow this season going empty-handed at the Olympics.
Nadal summed up his thoughts by saying:
“What he achieved this year is something, well, amazing. I definitely believe that he can do it, without a doubt.”
