The 2022 Wimbledon final will be played today between Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios and either going to be a 7th for the Serbian or the first for the Aussie.
It's a shame this is not last year's final because these players hated each other pretty openly not that long ago. Kyrgios was always quick to criticize Djokovic because, well, he did not like him. Djokovic was not so open in his criticism but he appreciated it very much when Kyrgios became of the rare players that spoke in his favour during the Australian Open fiasco earlier this year.
Since then relations have been rather cordial with Kyrgios explaining it as a sort of 'bromance' while Djokovic toned that down a bit. Turning attention away from the gossip stuff let's see how they stack up tennis-wise. Well, Kyrgios has given Djokovic a lot of trouble in the past. Both their matches were played in 2017 and Kyrgios won those in straight sets.
Tomorrow won't be so easy because Djokovic has been unbeatable at Wimbledon in recent memory. Not many have beaten the Serbian here and it takes a special type of performance to do so. Kyrgios is capable of it, especially when he's playing as well as he is playing this year. The match will ironically be on his racquet because he will need to win this match because Djokovic can't lose it.
He will need to be focused during the entirety of it and that's something he's not been able to do too often in the past. He will need to forget the antics and focus on one goal. The crowd will be fully behind him and it's a perfect mixture of everything for him. It's his favourite event, a player he disliked in the past, his chance to finally back up all his bold claims from the past. Today will decide whether he's capable of it.
