Alexander Zverev continued with good tennis today beating Davidovich Fokina and advancing to the bett1HULKS Indoors Cologne final.
It was another good day for Alexander Zverev in Cologne today as he defeated Davidovich Fokina in straight sets to advance to the bett1HULKS Indoors final. The match lasted close to one and a half hours and Zverev won 7-5 6-3. It wasn't a very easy match especially early on when Davidovich Fokina resisted very well. Even after the Spaniard took a medical timeout things didn't change much. Both players played well and it wasn't until very late in the set that Zverev broke through.
At 6-5 Zverev had two consecutive breakpoints which were in fact set points. They were the first ones he saw all match and he failed to use either. He would get a 3rd later in the game and it that one that he used to win the game and set 7-5. The 2nd set started off shaky with Zverev having to save a breakpoint. After that, he started playing much better and Davidovich Fokina started having issues. In one such game, it was too much for the Spaniard to handle and Zverev broke him to take a 4-1 lead.
It would not be enough as Davidovich Fokina fought back bravely to make it 4-4. While visibly annoyed Zverev wasn't shaken too much and he continued playing well and grabbing the lead once again 5-4. Davidovich Fokina did not back down so we ended up in a tiebreak.
Zverev played better at the start taking a 3-1 lead before Davidovich Fokina requested another medical timeout. After the medical, it was still Zverev who was winning all the points very soon the match ended with Zverev winning the tiebreak 7-3.
