Emma Navarro came into the Australian Open with a new label having reached the top 10 and was eighth seed compared to the last year that has seen her rise over defend her position. But she continues to excel in the Grand Slams as she moves into a third consecutive Quarter-Final.

Navarro has also ticked off all Grand Slam Quarter-Finals now in her career aside from the French Open. Albeit she has never got past this point and won't be favourite to do so next despite another gritty three set win, this time over Daria Kasatkina.

The 23-year-old American claimed it 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 in a match full of missed break opportunities especially on the racquet of Navarro as she converted just 9/25 but she showed an incredible level of fitness to see off the Russian and also produce another three set win.

This away too from the glare of the bigger courts as she has played on both Rod Laver and Margaret Court all tournament but went on to John Cain this time around with Alex de MInaur of course playing on the former. But she got it done and that test that she is on an upward hill against is a certain Iga Swiatek who swept aside Eva Lys 6-0, 6-1 earlier on Monday.

She will face her sternest test in Navarro but it will all be about fitness with the American priding herself on it but in comparison to Swiatek, she has been through two times the battles so far compared to Swiatek. Navarro started off breezing into a 4-0 lead over Kasatkina but such was the flow of the match, the latter came back and made it 4-3 albeit Navarro broke and missed set points a plenty. She finally fell over the line for the lead at 6-4.

Set two was similar as Navarro eased in front at 3-1 then had match points to get it done in two. But she spurned those and Kasatkina took the set. She missed chance after chance next set as she broke for 3-3 but then couldn't break for 5-3. She survived break points this time as she went 6-5 up before finally claiming the win. A true test of endurance and one that she prevailed in but how will that impact the Swiatek test.
