Former World No.1
Andy Murray is almost certain to secure an
Australian Open wildcard entry, with seven-time Grand Slam champion
Venus Williams also in line for a main draw wildcard entry.
Murray, who is a five time Australian Open finalist, is undergoing a career resurgence after multiple hip surgeries and being on the verge of retirement. Currently ranked at World No.134, the Brit pulled off victories over Top 10 stars Jannik Sinner and Hubert Hurkacz late in the year, indicating he is still capable of competing with the best.
On the women's side, Venus Williams is ranked 318th but is tipped to secure a wildcard entry if she recovers in time from the leg injury that forced her to withdraw from this year's US Open.
There is no local wildcard playoff tournament this year because of the pandemic, so they will all be at selectors’ discretion.
