The Hopman has been a longstanding tennis event quite popular among players and fans usually played on hard courts.
The format of the event was quite simple with 8 teams participating and representing their respective nations. The format was unique in that it featured mixed-gender teams that competed for the trophy of the best tennis nation. The last time it was held was in 2019 when Switzerland defeated Germany 2-1 in the final. In the next season, it was replaced by the ATP Cup a new competition which found favor with fans rather quickly.
The event was set to return in 2022 in a different venue but that plan was abandoned with new reports claiming the event might be held in 2023. The venue in question would be in Nice with the surface being clay. It would be the first time ever the event would be held on clay since its 1989 inception. From the start of the competition, the event never left Australia always being held in the country at the start of the season.
Not many details are yet known about the competition but initial reports suggest it will make a comeback in 2023. Whether it will be as popular as before remains to be seen but it's got to have it back.
