2019 and 2020 were breakthrough seasons for Christian Garin who now spoke about his preferred surfaces as well as the influence of Chilean tennis legends.

Garin's journey among the top of the ATP Ranking was pretty fast. Christian ended the 2017 season as no. 311 in the ranking but moved up to TOP 100 after winning 3 Challenger titles in 2018. In 2019, he managed to win his first 2 ATP titles and broke to TOP 35 of the ATP Ranking. This season, the Chilean has won another 2 titles and reached his career-high 18th place. Out of 11 matches played on the clay, he managed to win 10. On the other hand, he lost 5 of the 6 matches played on the hardcourt and so he spoke to the ATPTour.com about his preferred surfaces.
"I love to play on grass and like to play on hard courts. Clay is my favorite surface. But I’m going to try and play more on other surfaces now that I’ll have a higher ATP Ranking. I want to learn how to play on hard courts and play on the grass a lot, so I just want to be in as many tournaments as I can. I work hard every day and the hard work is paying off, I love tennis and have a great team behind me that’s helping me every day," Garin said.
Garin is currently the best Chilean player. He is sitting on the 18th place of the ATP Ranking, followed by Nicolas Jarry who is 89th. But there are 2 legends from Chile that also Garin looks up to. Former world number 5, Fernando Gonzalez and former no.9 Nicolas Massu. Garin spoke also about the influence of those two on him.
"I have great memories of both of them. I went to Vina del Mar to watch them both play many times and now consider Nicolas to be a friend. He talks to my coach every day and I know he’s really proud of me now. People like to talk a lot in Chile. They were both in the Top 10 and incredible players, so sometimes the pressure was too much. But I’m enjoying my game and my tennis now, so I’ve forgotten about that and just focus on myself," said Garin.
