Australia’s
Nick Kyrgios knows the art of remaining in the
news. The 30-year-old has hardly played any tennis in the last three years
after suffering a serious wrist injury in 2022. Despite that, Kyrgios made continuous
appearances on various platforms and expressed his opinions on different topics related to sports.
Kyrgios has recently spoken to
talkSPORT, where he opened up
about an interesting plan of taking part in the ‘Battle of Sexes’ against women’s
world number one
Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka is currently taking part in
Wimbledon, where she has cemented her spot in the quarterfinal after beating Belgium’s
Elise Mertens. Kyrgios revealed that both players are thinking about featuring
in the contest on a smaller court where he will be allowed one serve.
"Sabalenka and I are thinking about doing a ‘Battle of
the Sexes’ later in the year where the court is going to be slightly smaller
for me, with one serve,” he said. "UTS is an event that I believe is the
modern day tennis, how tennis should be. So we’re going to do it on a smaller
court, a slightly smaller court I’m playing in, slightly smaller than the usual
tennis court."
Kyrgios also stated that despite not playing much tennis in
the recent past, he remains optimistic that he has enough talent and skills to
get the better of Sabalenka. "We get one serve and we’re thinking about
doing it later in the year in Hong Kong,” he said. "This is going to be
something that I’m really nervous for to be honest because she’s in her
absolute prime right now and she’s getting the wooden legs of me. But I’m still
feeling confident that I’ll get her. I think I’ve still got enough variation in
it and enough talent in the tank to take Sabalenka. But she’s fierce and I’m
feeling nerves right now."
