Jannik Sinner and
Anna Kalinskaya
were photographed enjoying some time off in Sardinia, Italy. The couple is off
the action this week and was seen in the Costa Esmeralda region of Italy
following their respective
Wimbledon exits. The Russian withdrew during her
match against
Elena Rybakina, while Sinner fell short against
Daniil Medvedev
in the quarter-finals.
As the Italian prepares for his
debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games starting July 26 at Roland Garros, the
25-year-old Russian has decided to skip the Olympics to travel to the WTA 500
Washington Open at the beginning of the US hardcourt swing.
Critics target Sinner and Kalinskaya’s holiday
After a demanding grass-court swing, both players decided to take a brief break
from competition. Sinner played 10 matches in three weeks from the start of the
Halle Open until his Wimbledon exit, similar to the 9 matches Kalinskaya
contested in the same period between the
Berlin Ladies Open and her Wimbledon
departure.
However, photos of both players
taking a break have sparked criticism from some fans. The Italian media outlet
Chi shared a glimpse of them on a beach on July 17, and reactions on social
media were swift: "Paparazed for the 1st time," posted a fan account
of Sinner on X, triggering a reaction from fans.
“This is worse than Paula and
Stefanos,” one fan wrote. “Wimbledon is over Jannik, you can change your
outfit,” another commented on the post. "Wasn’t he supposed to be sick? Or
was that another of his excuses to save himself from the embarrassment after
getting paraded around as the overwhelming favorite? Anyway, love their
extremely ‘private’ relationship."
Here you can find more
reactions to the pictures. It seems like despite their relationship getting lauded by other people that the people who criticise are still very much a reality.
