UTR Pro Match Series will be a new exhibition tournament that will bring tennis back on screens to the tennis fans during the Tour suspension.
During the Coronavirus lockdown, many tournament directors are trying to find interesting ways how to deliver tennis to their fans. The Madrid Open came with an interesting solution when they created the
Virtual Madrid Open. Now, another series of matches is behind the corner as we'll see a new
UTR Pro Match Series.
4 ATP and WTA players should compete in West Palm Beach. There will be only 2 players and 1 official on the court to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The ATP players include Matteo Berrettini, Reilly Opelka,
Tennys Sandgren and Tommy Paul. WTA players that will take part in this exhibition are Alison Riske, Amanda Anisimova, Danielle Collins and Ajla Tomljanovic.
“I’d play tennis in a hazmat suit, just to go compete. I’m itching,” Sandgren said. “You can control the settings a lot more. There’s way less players and way less extra stuff going on, so you can take more extensive precautions.”
“We’re trying to bring pro tennis back on linear TV, and we’re doing it in a way that is super safe,” said Mark Leschly, the chairman and chief executive of Universal Tennis. “The world has changed, and we must adapt and innovate. Local, individual and small group play will be the new normal for the foreseeable future.”
