Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal met in an unorthodox tennis match 13 years ago, when they played on 2 surfaces at the same time.

Both Federer and Nadal are known for dominance on a certain surface. Rafa has won 12 titles at Roland Garros on clay, on the other hand, Roger triumphed 8 times on grass at Wimbledon.
At the time of the match, Federer was undefeated for 48 consecutive matches on the grass. On the other hand, Nadal didn't lose in 72 matches in a row and so there come an idea to play on 2 surfaces at the same time.
Before the match, Federer said: "We are both looking forward to this absolutely new event. The idea really appeals to me as we both dominate one of the surfaces. Rafa holds the record of 72 victories in series on clay and I have not been defeated on grass since 48 matches. It'll be fun to find out what it's like to play on a court with mixed surfaces! And it ought to be interesting to see who chooses the better tactic. People have been talking about this event for quite a while. Now it's coming up pretty soon already and I like the fact that the stadium - which is very nice, by the way - is located on Majorca, Rafa's home."
The match was a great show for all of the fans. It took 19 days to prepare the court and players spent more than 2 hours battling on the court. The result was more than close when Rafa defeated Roger 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(10).
