Most of the time I've enjoyed Mac's on-court antics during his playing career. Unlike the 'bad boys' of today, John rarely repeated his tirades. The mystery or intrigue of what might be coming next was always in my mind. But, admittedly, I have had to tolerate some of his not-finest moments during commentary. Not always a balanced diet of +/- remarks... and often repetitive. Perhaps his quick wit is in the beginnings of decline?13-09-2022 12:33

Poor dejected Wimbledon board having to stoop to this level in order to distract from their incomplete 'star players' roster ... with only themselves to blame. Gotta wonder if these sisters were given the "Saudi Golfers' $pecial"? We can only imagine the amounts of those direct deposits !!!! Anyway, enjoy the 'Asterisk Cup 2022'.27-06-2022 12:05

Whatever 'incentive' the folks at Wimbledon gave to Williams was wasted time and/or money. We do understand the frustration, perhaps desperation, caused by the loss of 'name players' (albeit brought upon by the board itself). But... really? It seems ludicrous to think one can practice at home, then legitimately compete for the Wimbledon Asterisk Cup in 2022. Not going to happen given the relatively recent evolution in the game's speed and agility required. Unless she is pitted against a #200 or less opponent, this distraction (intended or otherwise) is over in the first round.24-06-2022 12:39

Something to seriously consider are these 'children' working their way into the top levels of play. In recent history the state of competition for young players DEMANDS they mature beyond their years. A very cool thing is happening right now in that very young players are proving to be competitive at the top level. However with that comes pressures outsiders can only imagine and offer nothing more than speculation. One has to experience that tiny circle around gifted players to even begin to understand their daily pressures. The majority of mere mortals could very well fail at maintaining their mental health, much less physical demands, to compete at the top. With these extremely young athletes causing somewhat of an evolution - and revolution (in tennis and other sports) -- will come the need for initial mental health training. Mental well-being seems to be an increasingly unbalanced situation since Osaka revealed her various issues. WTA and other organizations must step-up to this challenge of protecting the mental wellness of these kids caught-up in a very adult (and often nasty) world of pro sports.28-03-2022 12:43

She has a right to feel like she needs to "grow up more" because the state of competition for young players DEMANDS they mature beyond their years. A very cool thing is happening right now in that very young players are proving to be competitive at the top level. But with that comes pressures outsiders can only imagine and offer nothing more than speculation. One has to experience that minute circle of these gifted players to even begin to understand the daily pressures. The majority of mere mortals could very well fail at maintaining their mental health, much less physical demands, to compete at the top. With these extremely young athletes causing somewhat of an evolution and revolution (in tennis and other sports) will come the need for initial mental health training. At least that seems to be an increasingly scary situation since Osaka revealed her various issues. WTA and other organizations must step-up to this challenge of protecting the mental wellness of these kids in a very adult (and often nasty) world of pro sports.28-03-2022 12:32

Television announcers should be reprimanded for making rude remarks with nothing more than unwarranted speculation in their small minds. They offered very little in the way of play-by-play throughout. Not only did they offer lengthy periods of silence, but often resorting to incessant jabbering all weekend about unrelated subjects for minutes at a time while play was in progress. Now the media has also made an ass of themselves in this situation with Azarenka with their incorrect hysterical headlines. It was obvious (to some) that Azarenka did not have her usual movement on the court; especially a hint of side-to-side immobility. Apparently her left ankle injury has not healed completely. The umpire's refusal to allow her to immediately retire was uncalled for. A seasoned athlete knows their body better than a rule book. Let us not pretend that all is well mentally with Azarenka (and a couple other players). The times we are in globally at the moment do not help with the stress a pro athlete endures on a daily basis. And to have your home country embroiled in a ruthless invasion certainly does not help one focus 100%. All you couch potatoes pretending to know everything about a player's fitness or attitude does not afford you the right to debase them just because you do not like them. Kicking someone when they are down is an unbecoming trait. Makes you no better than the rogue "journalist" in a press conference who insists upon making rude remarks disguised as a question simply for recognition or sensationalism. BTW: She did not "storm off the court". She simply felt she could not continue and made that known to the ump. Since the umpire refused her, Azarenka simply made the educated call herself.28-03-2022 12:24

She asked for a short time out to have her trainer/doctor assess her physical situation and simply felt she could not continue. Since the umpire refused her, Azarenka simply made the educated call herself. The idiotic announcers are terrible at their jobs. Is she serious? Heartless?? Her words indicate a major LACK OF RESPECT AND EMPATHY. If anyone is to be called-out it is the umpire for her ineptness and inability to understand the circumstances and take control of an emotionally charged situation. Azarenka could only hold-in the pressures forced upon her and others regarding the violence in Ukraine for so long. Viktoria snapped, unfortunately at a bad time and place. We cannot always control emotions and occasionally it just comes out. This 6-foot tall up & coming wonder (Rybakina) had better gain some degree of wisdom and compassion or her tennis future is going to be a bumpy road. Her attitude sucks, and her words are disturbing.17-03-2022 13:16
