The WTA circuit will make a stop in Africa in a few weeks, as the city of Monastir, Tunisia plays host to the Jasmin Open Monastir tournament.
A WTA 250 event, the Jasmin Open will run from October 3-9, 2022. Taking place entirely on hard courts, the event will be making it's debut on the WTA Tour as several stars will descend upon on the city of Monastir to compete for the title.
Among the participants will be hometown hero Ons Jabeur, who will indeed receive a hero's welcome as the Tunisian has been a trailblazer for African and Arab women everywhere. The 28-year old recently made history by being the first African or Arab woman in the Open era to reach a Grand Slam final, not to mention back-to-back finals as she finished runner-up at both Wimbledon and the recently concluded US Open.
Joining the newly-minted World No.2 are the 13th-ranked Veronika Kudermetova, and former World No.21 Sorana Cirstea. The Belgian duo of Alisson Van Uytvanck and Elise Mertens are also scheduled to compete, in addition to Italians Martina Trevisan and Jasmine Paolini.
The Jasmin Open features a 32-player singles event and a 16-team doubles draw. Below is the list of entrants.
