Ana Ivanovic retired six years ago and it wasn't a decision that she took lightly but it was also a decision that she never regretted.
The Serbian former number one has been quite busy raising a family since that US Open match in 2016 that ended up being a final one. With injuries more and more slowing her down, Ivanovic made the tough decision to retire from the sport she loved and she reflected recently upon that decision.
It was a question posted to her and she responded to it with a video. In the video, Ivanovic said:
"I think it's always a very hard moment in your career when you make that decision but to be honest, last year or over a year, I was really struggling with lot of injuries and I felt like I could never get myself back in shape to be in the top and I really felt it was time for me to step back and to look for other opportunities and other wishes that I had for starting a different career"
The caption of the video said:
"A really tough decision that I made 6 years ago, but never regretted. Stepping back from my career was hard, but that doesn’t mean that tennis hasn’t remained my passion after all."
