Alycia Parks losing to
Elise Mertens in the first round of the
Miami Open 1-6 4-6 is not a surprise because she's been dreadful ever since she stepped outdoors.
She did really well indoors but the moment events started getting played outdoors she lost all but one match. Her serve is not great because she regularly has more double faults than aces and it just doesn't give her any advantage. Her game outside of her serve is pretty limited and that's where the trouble starts.
Mertens had no issues taking apart her game in the first set as she cruised to a pretty swift 6-1 win. The second was more close but only because Mertens herself started to play a bit worse and she wasted a lot chances in that one. Eventually once she started to get a bit more serious, she was able to get it done 6-4.
