Second time in the San Jose last eight ✌️ With a comeback victory over Pliskova, 🇺🇸 @AnisimovaAmanda goes on to face the winner of Sakkari-Rogers in the quarterfinals! #MubadalaSVC
Amanda Anisimova made American fans very happy by coming back from a set down a winning against Karolina Pliskova 3-6 7-5 6-1.
It was a fabulous match between two very hard hitters as both Pliskov and Anisimova crush the ball. There was not much variety as we saw the players trading blows from start to finish. Early on it was Pliskova who was slightly better jumping out to a 3-1 lead. Both played well once the rally developed but Pliskova served a bit better and that made things easier for her 6-3.
The 2nd set was the crucial one. Once again it was Pliskova who was better early taking a 3-2 lead but she made the mistake of dropping her serve immediately after putting the match in limbo again. From there we saw a tight battle with not many chances for either player. Anisimova got one late in the set and she converted that set point 7-5.
Anisimova played the crucial rallies a bit better and the improved serve certainly helped her. The final set was just a landslide win for Anisimova who crushed the ball extremely well late as Pliskova's kind of fell apart. It's nothing unusual for the Czech player and she's generally having a very poor year.
