Andreescu believes she will certainly play at next year's Australian Open: "I'm really looking forward to 2021"

Although she missed all of the 2020 season, Bianca Andreescu believes she will "100 per cent" play at the upcoming 2021 Australian Open.

The 2019 US Open champion last played a competitive match at the 2019 WTA Finals, before missing the start of the 2020 season due to a knee injury. After numerous setbacks, the Canadian announced she would not return this year as she focused on recuperation and training.

However, her match drought may be coming to an end as the 20-year old revealed in an interview that would be returning to the WTA circuit at the start of the 2021 season.

"I'm doing really well,” Andreescu told Tennis Majors. "The virus pushed me back, and some little personal things here and there, but right now I'm good, I'm training hard...I'm really looking forward to 2021."

Andreescu won three titles in 2019; Indian Wells, Toronto and the US Open, which was her maiden Grand Slam title. Additionally, she was named WTA Newcomer of the Year for 2019 and reached a career-high ranking of World No.4.

"I'm perfectly healthy," added the Canadian. "I really wanted to take time to build everything in my life, and I think this time off helped me do that. I wouldn’t say I am ready tomorrow to play a match because I am taking it step by step, but maybe in a couple of weeks I will be good. I don’t want to rush anything but I’m feeling good.”
