🇪🇪 Anett Kontaveit takes the first-set tiebreak! One set away from the #TennisInTheLand title 👀
It has not been the best of years for Anett Kontaveit but the Estonian has played fair tennis all year long. It was a solid level good for several victories a week but not for any trophies. That changed in Cleveland where she got a very good opportunity to win a trophy against Begu who does not frequent finals often.
The Estonian played showed the difference in level early on taking an early break and holding that lead for the majority of the set. However, Begu found a way to come back from being down 2-5 and make it 5-5. The Romanian player has shown great tennis all week long and it came back to her later in the set.
Play ended up in a tiebreak where both dominated on their own serve. It was only late that Kontaveit broke through winning the tiebreak with 7-5. That provided more confidence to Kontaveit who was shaken after squandering a large lead in the set. She continued applying pressure and once again broke Begu to take a 3-1 lead.
The Romanian player did not get discouraged but also failed to create too many chances on the Estonian's serve. Kontaveit simply is the better player and she was able to showcase that in rallies. She closed it out with 6-4 winning her 2nd career title.
