In an all-American clash between Anisimova and Rogers, the younger American won the opening set with 6-4 but lost the next two 0-6 3-6 to crash out of the event.
After a very strong start of the season in Australia, Anisimova is not playing that great. She won the exhibition event ahead of the Indian Wells in stunning fashion but found herself retiring in a very bizarre manner against Fernandez in Indian Wells. Ten days later in Miami, she once again disappointed against a very upbeat Rogers.
Early on it went good for Anisimova who was playing rather well similar to the way she played against Fernandez. She was able to win the opening set with 6-4 but completely fell apart in the 2nd set. The American could not do anything right and simply rushed in many points. Rogers was patient enough and she won the set with 6-0.
The final set was quite competitive between both players but Rogers was able to secure an early break which made things quite a bit easier for her. It took off the pressure from her and she was able to relax resulting in a much better play overall. Anisimova was able to force a break point later on but Rogers saved it comfortably.
In the end Rogers finished it off with 6-3 for the superb win in Miami.
