Number one seed at the National Bank Open in Montreal barely squeezed past Sloane Stephens in a thrilling match with 7-6(4) 4-6 6-4.

A spectacular match between Stephens and Sabalenka happened in Montreal where the American player came very close to a sensational upset. The match lasted almost well over two hours and it saw Sabalenka jump out to an early 3-0 lead. Stephens fought back to tie the score so the winner was decided in the tiebreak.

A very closely contested one was won by Sabalenka 7-4. The 2nd set was an extremely tight one once again. Stephens played some of the best tennis she played in a very long time. Midway through the set, she failed to convert several break points.

It did not come back to bite her as she was able to win the set after all with 6-4. She carried over that momentum into the 3rd set which allowed her to take a 3-0 lead. She looked in a great position to complete a sensational upset win but Sabalenka never gave up. Similar to the tiger tattooed on her foreharm, Aryna battled back in stellar fashion.

From 1-4 down the Belarussian player won 5 games in row to defeat a very strong Stephens today and mvoe on the next round. A very close match for the top seed who should get a lot of confidence from an amazing comeback win.
