Aryna Sabalenka joins elite 10,000-Point Club with Miami Open victory

Aryna Sabalenka claimed the Miami Open title this Saturday, defeating Jessica Pegula in impressive fashion, 7-5, 6-2, securing her 7th WTA 1000 title. The World No. 1 took her second title of the season and surpassed the 10,000 WTA ranking points, joining a select group of players.

Since the current ranking system was implemented in 2009, only eight players have surpassed 10,000 points in the official ranking. Sabalenka is the latest to join, adding another 1,000 points to reach a record of 10,541 points—placing her 5th on the all-time list.

Sabalenka's dominance over the last 52 weeks is undeniable. During that period, she won the 2024 US Open, three WTA 1000 titles—Cincinnati, Wuhan, and Miami—and the WTA 500 Brisbane International. Additionally, she reached the final of the Australian Open at the start of the year and three other WTA 1000 finals (Madrid and Rome 2024, Indian Wells 2025).

It’s important to note that a Grand Slam title awards 2,000 points to the champion and 1,300 points to the runner-up, while WTA 1000 titles award 1,000 points to the champion and 650 points to the runner-up.

According to journalist Bastien Fachan, the point record is currently held by Serena Williams, who earned 13,615 points in 2013 when she had titles at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the French Open, along with a couple of WTA 1000 titles. Iga Swiatek (2024), Victoria Azarenka (2012), and Maria Sharapova (2013) are the other players who have earned more points than Sabalenka so far.

With Sabalenka in 5th place, the other players who surpassed the 10,000-point mark include Dinara Safina (2009), Caroline Wozniacki (2011), and Ash Barty (2021).
