World No.1 Ashleigh Barty has arrived in Melbourne and the Aussie is wasting little time in preparing for the upcoming Australian Open.
Barty was spotted training on Rod Laver Arena, in preparation for the Australia Summer of tennis. She won her second career Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in July, but has yet to reach the finals at Melbourne Park. The 25-year old made the semifinals at the 2020 edition, losing to eventual champion Sofia Kenin.
Having had a stellar 2021 season during which she won five titles, Barty is undoubtedly a favorite to lift the trophy at home. The Queensland native spent six months away from home during her spectacular run, but returned to Australia soon after the US Open, taking a hiatus and skipping the year-ending WTA Finals.
The World No.1 will be competing in WTA warm-up events during the first week of January, before attempting to finally clinch the Australian Open title in front of her home crowd.
