It's soon to be 2022 and for Ashleigh Barty, it will mean a return to competition. The Australian has not played since the US Open electing to rest up and recover in her native country. Barty is well known for being a player who has a hard time away from home and she talked about that in a recent interview. She said:
“It’s definitely been nice to have some time at home after such a long year. I did feel rested until preseason started a few weeks ago!” Barty is doing everything he can to be as prepared as possible for the Australian summer of tennis. This week, tired! I’ve been working hard on and off the court, doing everything I possibly can to get ready for January. The first few weeks of preseason are always tough physically."
She also spoke about finishing the year as the year-end No. 1 saying it's nice and maker her proud but also noting the importance of staying humble and good:
“I try and be a good person and do the right thing, regardless of the number next to my name. I am proud I was able to finish the year at No. 1, especially after the challenging and unpredictable season."
She finished up with:
“Being away from home for so long was really tough for not only me but my whole team, everyone made sacrifices which I’m very grateful for. We went into 2021 knowing it was going to be an adventure and it definitely was, I wouldn’t change it."
