Kristina Mladenovic and Alja Tomljanovic were the first two players to kick-off the Fed Cup final. It was a really quick match as Mladenovic managed to win comfortably 6-1 and 6-1 in just an hour and 13 minutes.
But there was still world number one Ashleigh Barty to save the day for Australia. Barty outplayed Garcia 6-0 and 6-0 in just 58 minutes and became the first player to win a match 6-0 and 6-0 in the Fed Cup final. After the first day of play, Australia and France are tied 1-1. Barty said after her match:
"This is remarkable," said Barty, in her on-court post-match interview. "I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect match. I think that’s probably the best tennis match I’ve ever played in my life, and what a place to do it, this is incredible. I’m so happy to be back here in Perth. I started my year here, so it’s a hell of a way to finish it off too."
