It has a been a magical five days for teenager Linda Fruhvirtova, but the rising Czech star was ousted from the 2022 Miami Open by Paula Badosa in the fourth round.
Badosa was clearly the better player as she recorded a 6-2 6-3 victory over her 16-year old opponent, overpowering the Czech youngster with deep strokes from the baseline. The fifth seed showed little inconsistency in the first set, moving her opponent around the court as she hit shots at will to clinch the opening set.
Nonetheless, Fruhvirtova shocked the Miami crowd as she quickly broke the Spaniard to lead 2-0 in the second set. Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly vanquished as Badosa immediately broke back, before obtaining another break to put the match out of her opponent's reach. The 2021 Indian Wells champion closed out the match after an hour and 22 minutes, ending the World No.279's dream run in the round of 16.
Awaiting Badosa in the quarterfinals is American Jessica Pegula, as the World No.21 defeated Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina in their fourth round encounter.
