Barty denies Gavrilova comeback to advance at 2021 Australian Open

After a flawless first-round performance, Ashleigh Barty defeated Daria Gavrilova 6-1, 7-6(7) in the second round of the 2021 Australian Open.

In her opening match of the 2021 Australian Open, Ashleigh Barty won all of the games to secure a quick 6-0, 6-0 victory. Although, she started her second-round match with a lost game, she continued in the similar style as in the first one as she managed to then win 6 games in a row and show superb form again.

However, after the world number 1 won the first set 6-1, Daria Gavrilova showed that she wants to fight for the victory in the second set. Despite being down already 2-5, Gavrilova broke Barty twice to get a 6-5 lead. However, Ashleigh Barty showed her great level again to deny 2 setpoints in the tie-break and win it 9-7 to advance into the second round.
