Ashleigh Barty won the 2022 Australian Open and the win was her first on a hard court grand slam putting her in elite company of only two active players to win grand slams on all three surfaces.
Ashleigh Barty won her maiden grand slam a few years ago in Paris at the French Open. Her triumph at the event came as a surprise to many including herself. It was an advertisement of things to come as Barty established herself as the best player on tour a couple of years later.
Barty won her 2nd grand slam event at Wimbledon last year after a brilliant run. The Australian player joined a company of players that have won grand slams on clay and grass and the list is not too long. Now she added a hard court one and she became only the 2nd active player to hold win grand slams on all three surfaces. The other player is of course Serena Williams but she has not played in a while.
In all of tennis, there is only five players to win grand slam trophies on all three surfaces and the three men players are obviously Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. The only WTA players are Barty and Serena Williams.
