Viewed by many as a favorite to lift the title,
Ashleigh Barty left little doubt as she bulldozed past Lucia Bronzetti to reach the third round of the
Australian Open.
The top seed wasted little time in securing the 6-1 6-1 victory, dominating her opponent without much resistance. Barty raced to a 5-0 lead to begin the match, before her opponent was able to salvage a game. This seemed to only spur on the Aussie, who quicky closed out the first set after just 26 minutes.
Bronzetti hoped to change her fortune in the second set, as the Italian qualifier quickly held her opening service game. However, Barty would ramp up her intensity, winning the next six games to clinch the match after just 52 minutes.
The World No.1 was near perfect on serve, hitting five aces while winning 90% of points behind her first serve. Awaiting the reigning Wimbledon champion in the third round is the hard-hitting
Camila Giorgi, as the Italian prevailed over Tereza Martincova earlier in the day.
