World No. 6 Paula Badosa revealed an illness that forced her to retire after just 20 minutes into her Miami Masters quarterfinal against Jessica Pegula.
Jessica Pegula as the 16th seed had a 4-1 lead in the first set despite opening the match by losing her serve in the first game. She responded with a rebreak in the next game and added three more in the next couple of minutes. Ultimately 20 minutes in, Badosa decided to pull the plug. She wrote later on Twitter:
"So sorry I had to retire today. Been struggling with illness since the last match the other day. Tried everything to recover but wasn’t enough. I’ll take some days to recover well and prepare for clay-court season. Thank you,"
