Chris Evert's cancer journey: a timeline of resilience

Former world number one Chris Evert has recently shared a picture about the struggle with cancer. The 69-year-old has struggled with the illness for a long time, but due to her determination, she has managed to overcome it every time.

She was first diagnosed with it in 2020 and went through treatment, which led to recovery. In 2021, she was again diagnosed with the disease and once again managed to defeat it. In 2023, Evert was once again diagnosed with stage 1 cancer but once again managed to overcome it. In a post on her official account on the social media platform Instagram, Evert showed a picture of her going through a caption: "Not so long ago! 🙏 grateful for everyday, everything, everyone! ❤️ "

Evert is regarded as one of the best players in the history of women’s tennis in the singles category. The Florida-born star won 18 Grand Slam titles in her career. Overall, she won 157 titles in her illustrious career. Her most successful competition was the French Open, where she won the title seven times. She also won the US Open six times, Wimbledon three times and the Australian Open twice.

Her first major title was at the Roland Garros in 1974, where she defeated China’s Olga Morozova in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2. Her last major title was also the French Open in 1986, where she defeated the former world number one America’s Martina Navratilova in the final with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Other than that, Evert won the WTA Finals four times as well. She won the Fed Cup eight times as well.

In the doubles category, Evert won three Grand Slams. Her last major title in the doubles category was the Wimbledon title in 1976, where she and her partner Martina Navratilova defeated the pair of Billie Jean King and Betty Stove in the final with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
