In the most compelling draw of this #Wimbledon, Clijsters and Hingis prevail in the women’s invitational doubles. They really should be made to play the women’s doubles next year, too, they’re just that damn good.
A couple of legends swung some racquets on Sunday and Kim Clijsters and Martina Hingis proved better than Daniela Hantuchova and Laura Robson.
The Ladies Invitation at Wimbledon proved a very exciting affair for many tennis fans who got to see some of the legends of the game swing the racquet. The sheer amount of talent some of these matchups had was quite impressive and most of them proved that class is timeless.
That is particularly true for Kim Clijsters and Martina Hingis who ended up winning the whole thing dominating their way past opponents. Their opposition in the final were Daniella Hantuchova and Luara Robson who played well all event long but they were no match for the Belgian - Swiss combo.
Noted tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg even remarked on Twitter that they should return to the WTA tour because they played so well. While it probably won't happen it would be quite good to see the 'old guard' teach the new kids on the block some lessons. After all, we saw volume 105 of that story yesterday in the Men's Singles final.
