Coco Gauff eases her was past Brengle in Toronto

Coco Gauff had to play compatriot Madison Brengle in Toronto and eased her way into the next round with a 6-1 6-3 win.

Gauff played superb tennis last week in San Jose until she met Paula Badosa. The American was up a break twice in that match but failed to close out the opening set. She lost the first set in the tiebreak and fell apart in the 2nd set to lose the match.

She recovered quite well for the WTA 1000 event in Toronto to smash Brengle rather easily. The American has a very defensive style of play forcing players to hit the ball one more time trying to get a mistake. She got very few mistakes from Gauff who came out strong taking the first set 6-1.

It was an impressive score from Gauff particularly due to her serving issues. She hit her first serve only 42 % of the time in the first set but still smashed Brengle dominating from the baseline. Gauff was on every ball and the older American simply could not create a good chance to finish off the point.

She also got very few errors from Gauff and that was that. In the 2nd set Brengle put up a much better fight keeping herself unbroken for a few games. Eventually, Gauff found ways to break down her defence once more taking a 5-3 lead. That was more than enough to win the set 6-3 and move on to the next round.
