American tennis prodigy Coco Gauff continues to add more accomplishments to her already impressive resume, as she took hold of yet another record following her opening round victory at the 2025 Miami Open.

The 2023 US Open champion made short work of compatriot Sofia Kenin on Thursday, securing a dominant 6-0 6-0 victory in under 50 minutes. Gauff has looked shaky for most of the 2025 season, and will likely gain some confidence following the decisive win over the 2020 Australian Open champion.

Gauff's victory sees her stand alone in a particular category

Following her win over Kenin, Gauff has recorded 57 match victories in hardcourt WTA 1000 events. This gives her the most wins by a player under the age of 22, ever since the WTA 1000 format was introduced in 2009.

The Atlanta native edged out Danish star Caroline Wozniacki, who sits in second place with 56 wins. Two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka comes in third with a distant 40 wins, whereas former World No.1 Iga Swiatek, Russian star Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka all share fourth place with 34 wins each.

Gauff will face familiar foe Maria Sakkari in the third round on Sunday. The World No.3 squared off against the Greek star in the same stage at the Indian Wells tournament last week, securing a straight sets victory after winning a close first-set tiebreak.
