Coco Gauff took on
Emma Raducanu for the first time in her career and it was a very good match that the American was able to pull out in two sets 6-3 7-6(4).
It wasn't perfect from Gauff because Raducanu put forward quite a good effort but ultimately she wasn't able to get the job done. She was also spotted holding her stomach a bit indicating that there might have been some slight discomfort but she played fine. The problem for Raducanu was that Gauff was on every ball.
She had to work really hard in order to win a point and had Gauff played a bit more precisely she would have probably won a bit easier as well. The first set, as the second one, featured both players breaking each other a few times. It's fairly standard for Gauff matches because she breaks often but also losses her serve more than she should.
Both were aggressive and it was reflected in the stats. Raducanu had 7 winners and 21 unforced errors while Gauff had 6 winners and 15 errors in the first set. At times the American opted for a more defensive approach which yielded results as Raducanu wasn't able to hit the ball as well as she hoped but it was one of her better performances lately.
