Day 1 at the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai: Wild-card Zheng with a surprise win over Keys

The best players that did no qualify for the WTA Finals in Shenzhen are fighting at the Elite Trophy tournament in Zhuhai.

The tournament is different from the others as the WTA Finals. It is played in 4 groups from which the first player qualifies for the semifinals. During the first day we saw 3 interesting matches from 3 different groups.
The tournament started with the match between Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari. The doubles champion from the US Open Sabalenka defeated her opponent in just hour and 21 minutes 6-3 and 6-4.
The longest match of the day was the second match, that was played for nearly 2 hours. The key was the first set that was played for 82 minutes. Bertens claimed it 7-6 and confirmed the victory over Vekic by a 6-2 victory in the second set.
The last match was the most interesting for the home fans as Saisai Zheng faced Madison Keys. Surprisingly, Zheng managed to outplay Keys 6-4 and 6-2 to get first point into the ranking.
