The year-end tournament for the best players that did not qualify for WTA Finals in Shenzhen continues, but already during the 2nd day of play 2 players leave the tournament.

It was Maria Sakkari again who stepped on the court as first during the second day. This time she had a difficult task as she faced Elise Mertens. To keep her hopes for semifinals alive she needed to win 2-0. But she lost the first set in just 29 minutes 6-2. And even though she fought in the second to level the score, Mertens dominated in the third to earn the first point. She will fight with Aryna Sabalenka for the spot in the semifinals.
Another player that needed a win was Donna Vekic. After a 2-0 defeat against Kiki Bertens she needed to outplay Yastremska. But the same as Sakkari few minutes ahead of her, she did not manage to win a match. She lost the both sets and says goodbye to the tournament.
First match of the group B was taken care of by American duo Sofia Kenin and Alison Riske. It is definitely a great reward for the young American to play in Zhuhai at the end of the season and she showed the appreciation. Kenin outplayed Riske in an hour and 15 minutes 6-4 and 6-4.
