Elena Rybakina stunned many by beating Simona Halep 6-3 6-3 en route to her maiden grand slam final at Wimbledon.
She will face Ons Jabeur in the final with neither of them playing in a final before. Rybakina played a really good match, her best this Wimbledon and it could not have come at a better time. Halep was pretty much left without any chances and she knew it. From the start, Rybakina put a lot of pressure on Halep with her groundstrokes.
The serve was working well as well and it was just a complete match for her. She needed that serve to win the match and she was able to execute it properly. Rybakina dropped only 3 points behind her first serve in the entire opening set while winning 9 of 15 rallies on Halep's 2nd serve. That was the difference in the 6-3 opening set.
Rybakina opened the 2nd set with an early break as well but Halep was able to battle back and make it 2-2. She would drop her serve once more in the next game and that was the deciding break that Rybakina needed to get this done. She was ready for anything Halep tried and never once did she look rattled or unsure what to do next.
Just a superbly dominant performance from Rybakina who emerges as a decent candidate to win it all.
