Bianca Andreescu was just three points away from reaching another final when an unexpected alarm brought her match against Alice Tubello in Cali to a sudden halt. The Canadian was serving for the victory at 6-0, 5-4, 15-15 when the warning sounded, prompting players, officials and everyone inside the court to quickly leave the playing area and seek shelter.
The unusual interruption came during what had been a strong comeback from Andreescu in the second set. After dominating the opening stages, the former US Open champion had fallen behind 0-3 before winning four consecutive games to turn the score around.
She then broke Tubello again to move within reach of the finish line, only for the alarm to interrupt her attempt to serve out the match.
The incident adds an unexpected twist to an impressive late-season run for the 26-year-old. Andreescu arrived in Colombia chasing a third consecutive WTA 125 title after lifting trophies in Rovereto and Queretaro, and had already extended her winning streak to 14 matches.
Andreescu's impressive run continues in Cali
The Canadian had looked particularly convincing during the opening set against Tubello, taking just 25 minutes to secure a 6-0 lead. She won 71% of the points played in the set, including 80% behind her serve, and did not allow her French opponent a single break opportunity.
Frantic scene in Colombia! Extremely high winds have forced play to be suspended at the WTA 125k Colombia Open during the match between 🇨🇦Bianca Andreescu & 🇫🇷Alice Tubello. That siren at the beginning of the clip is frightening... Everyone rushing to safety. #WTA #CdnTennis https://t.co/bxAoTyc5fg

Tubello, ranked No. 152 in the world, responded much more effectively at the start of the second set. She found greater consistency from the baseline, secured an early break and moved into a 3-0 lead, putting Andreescu under pressure for the first time in the match.
However, the former world No. 4 gradually regained control, winning four games in a row before breaking again to lead 5-4.

Andreescu had previously defeated Tamara Zidansek, Jazmin Ortenzi and Luisina Giovannini on her way to the semifinals, dropping just three sets throughout her run in Cali.
Her recent success has also transformed her ranking outlook. After winning the WTA 125 titles in Rovereto and Queretaro in October, Andreescu is closing in on a return to the Top 100. She now needs to resume her interrupted service game to complete the victory and move one step closer to another trophy.

- One step by another step -- WTA continues to 'lose the plot'. Too many hi-tech microphones being installed at most venues!!! Remove them (especially those along the hallways, sidewalks, and pathways throughout the venues. Not to mention (most of all) remove the mic's from the Players/Coaches Box.
mandoist06-11-2026 - Enough of her bullshit. Go marry someone.
mandoist06-11-2026 - Don't you just love this young lady!? We fans often expect athletes to be supermen and superwomen, often forgetting that they WILL GET TIRED! I love Alex's perspective. Tiredness for an athlete should never be viewed as a negative, especially if you are healthy, taking care of your body and mental health and putting in the work. What a mature perspective. Good for you, Alex!Rapunzel05-11-2026
- Jess is absolutely correct! But the disrespect is a trait I have noticed in most of the Russian players. Mirra is good but very immature and lacks humility. Conceivable needs to get a handle on that!Rapunzel05-11-2026
- Having spent weeks and weeks through the years on tour, I can say with confidence that Conchita was (is) one of the very few who realize the surprising level of maturity (and sometimes lack of) which Mirra seems to have developed in such a demanding adult world of Pro-Tennis. While at the same time reminding herself (Conchita, that is) that Mirra is still young and developing mentally and physically. The general public may forget at times, or not at all realize, these modern era young athletes do not have a 'normal' Youth. It's a major sacrifice, among countless sacrifices, these athletes must make. People who blow-off that fact are ignorant and unfair when they blurt out, "They choose fame so they have to put up with the intrusions on their lives". No, they do not.
mandoist05-11-2026 - Okay... someone with a camera was EAVESDROPPING on a private conversation. Shouldn't that be the point of discussion here? Regardless of the sensationalist crap by media, Pegula (and anyone) has a right to an opinion. There used to be an expectation that private conversations were respected, regardless of 'stardom' and whatever other defensive excuses media tries to shove in our faces. Boo-hoo if feelings are hurt. BTW: Having been employed at various tourney venues, etc., I can't tell you how nasty and offensive players can be when discussing their opponents and colleagues... in "private". Well, I could, but won't. I also challenge anyone to deny what Jessica said is false.

mandoist31-10-2026 - Osaka's mental state apparently does not allow her to reach any more Quarter Finals? I mean, she doesn't really have the time for tennis with all the pre-planning that must go into her 12 year-old "fashion" goals.
